On campus, to deliver a lecture on the “Application of Classroom Learning in the Corporate World” to an inquisitive batch of MBA students, our esteemed guest used stories from the wealth of experience that he has gathered, working in areas like Analytics, Customer Relationship Management, Marketing, Strategy and Business Development.
The session commenced with how the Atletico Madrid football team re-discovered its mojo through sheer grit in applying the teachings of the team’s new coach. Mr. Goswami then shared with the students, stories from his own work life to illustrate how management concepts taught in classes translate into realities of the corporate world.
Citing the applications of the renowned 4P’s of Marketing, Mr. Sudeep Goswami brilliantly highlighted how he applied these novel concepts early on in his career to achieve remarkable outcomes for his company. Taking a leaf out of Kotler’s book, and invoking his own experiments with the concepts preached by the marketing guru, he gave a great new dimension to the session.
In an age where data is the new currency, Mr. Goswami’s account of another enriching experience urged students to fathom how decision making can be enhanced manifolds with the help of insights extracted from data. He offered a glimpse of the data drill-down that had helped him bring forth a splendid turnaround for his company in terms of sales and market shares.
The lecture concluded with a concise summary of the key takeaways that Mr. Goswami had exhibited in the session. He propagated the idea that ‘Learning can be applied everywhere, and the application should ideally be simple. The application might entail a lot of hard work, but one should always enjoy the slog and wait for the efforts to bear fruit’.
